Moving...
Our lease is up at our current house at the end of April, and we're currently looking for a new little house to move into. The house we're in now is nearly perfect, except there's an attached apartment and the woman that's lived there since we moved in has been truly horrible. She's gone through our garbage, come into our house (uninvited, mind you) to yell at Chris (for no reason, mind you!), and made ridiculous demands and unfounded complaints to our landlords since the day we moved in. She's just an awful woman. Our landlords have been less than stellar in dealing with her, and we're fed up. We want to stay in the little town we're in now, and the past couple months we thought it'd be easy to find a new place. Last summer there were about six places in our neighborhood alone for rent. But now that we're getting close to the end I'm having a really hard time finding something that meets our needs and that's in our price range. I'm getting pretty discouraged! There's one little house that seems perfect, but the listing has disappeared from the site we found it on. I drove by tonight and the sign was still up in the yard, so I'll be calling tomorrow to see if it's still available. I really hope it is, because it's the best of the options we've found so far! The idea of moving, even though it's more than a month away, is totally stressful to me. I'm already feeling anxious about it. I'm a total worrier, I work myself up over 'what-ifs' and 'maybes', and thankfully I have Chris to keep me grounded, but it's hard to be calm about this kinda thing!
Do you have any tips for finding rentals? Any moving tips in general?

I fell you on the feeling discouraged on finding a place. I looked at craigslist everyday multiple times. It was existing and stressful. I took a day to stop looking and then went back and found the perfect little house.
ReplyDeleteI've moved quite a bit. Box up everything, even if your not moving far. Put clothes in big trash bags, but don't throw them away! Use blankets to protect furniture. Okay..so those were a lil obvious but sometimes can get overlooked. As for hunting for a new place. Make sure you scope it out in the daytime and at night...it can be surprising how the neighborhood can change overnight! Good luck. Hearts, janna lynn
ReplyDeleteI've moved 13 times so far in my life all of them were just as hard as the first move. My family and I are having to move AGAIN and we have 3 months to find a house so I know how stressful and difficult it is to find a house you love or at least like in a short amount of time. You'd think I would have awesome tips for you or something but I don't. haha! Sorry. The only thing I can tell you is to definitely not give up because sometimes it is the last few days that a house pops up. Also be sure and throw away crap you do not want or care about because that adds so much stress to your already stressful move! <3
ReplyDeleteI really hope y'all find a house y'all love in the area you want to be in! And, god, I hope you don't get anymore crazy neighbors because that lady sounds horrible! haha! ;]<3
I totally know where you coming from! We moved house last month and I found it so stressful even though we knew where we were going in good time! Good luck with finding the perfect place- I hope this one you're calling about tomorrow works out for you. It all works out in the end just keep listening to Chris! Crossing my fingers for you!
ReplyDeleteI just moved a few weeks ago, and it was really hard for me to find a place that i liked that fit in my price range. i guess my advice is to try to be patient and not give up on finding the right place! good luck!
ReplyDeleteugh i know how you feel! its so much harder to find rental houses than apartments and I am in the same boat as you right now. everything always works out though for the best so no worries you will find a great place to live!
ReplyDeleteLiving in an apartment vs. a rental home has pros and cons. We lived in an apartment, which I loved and then a rental with a beautiful view of the lake, which I hated. If you have any newer developments of apartments I would go with them. THEY clean the ground, spray for bugs, clean your air filters, and HAVE TO handle annoying neighbors.
ReplyDeleteBefore I moved anywhere I looked on several websites that rated the apartments of the property. Just search for a property review of the address of apartment you're looking into.
OH I am such a worrier too. make sure you have some really relaxing songs on your ipod for when you just need a few minutes to calm the hell down!! i also find thinking of the worst case scenario and realising you could cope with it works wonders too.

Yikes, your neighbor sounds like a gigantic pain :( Good luck with the search and move!
ReplyDeleteI am the same way! Thinking about moving makes me so stressed out! We're thinking of moving too, but like you guys haven't found the right place yet. We'd like to rent a house, but in upstate NY that's hard to find. Good luck with the place you want!!
ReplyDeleteBiggest tip: Don't see the place unless it is daylight outside! I was all ready to sign a lease on a place I only saw at night with a few lamps...came back the next day and it was a complete ess-hole.
