Real talk.

hi.

I wanted to address some comments I've gotten over the last few months for a second... Well, really only two, and they may be from the same person, but that's neither here nor there. I've gotten two comments on my Formspring (one last summer, one just a few days ago), about how I don't post enough on my blog. The last person clarified that they intended their comment to be constructive criticism and meant no harm by it, because they do enjoy my blog. So please don't feel like I'm attacking anyone or calling that person out, I just thought it might be nice to address the issue to everyone. I respect everyone's opinion, including the anonymous commenters in my Formspring :)

I am fully aware that I don't post very frequently here. I *know* that there's usually a week (or more!) between posts. I understand completely that, for some people, it may be hard to keep up with or stay interested in my blog. The reasons behind the infrequency of my posts are: I work 50 hours a week. I try to maintain my house. I try to make lots of stuff for my Etsy shop. I spend time with my boyfriend in order to maintain a healthy relationship. Now, these may not seem like reason enough to not be able to squeak in a post here and there, but to me they're important enough. I'm sure I could find the time to post random stuff every day or every other day, but that kinda thing isn't my bag. I'd much rather post something meaningful or personal or heartfelt every so often instead of coming up with a mish-mash of unimportant stuff to talk about. To me, it's quality over quantity. I'm not saying that I'll never post an inspiration post, or a wishlist post, but I don't want to do that alllllll the time. And honestly, another huge reason I don't post often is because I simply don't do all that much. I don't get to go out and do fun stuff very often, and when I do, I'm more focused on enjoying my time than taking pictures for my blog. That might not be the "right way" to be a blogger, but it's my way.

When I think about who my favorite bloggers are, they're women who work from home, or are stay at home moms, or have fantastic jobs that afford them evenings and weekends off... I only have two days off a week and I usually spend those trying to catch up on all the stuff I've missed during the week. I wish beyond all wishes that I could have more time to do fun things that I could document for you to see, but my reality is that I just don't.

I really hope you understand why things may not be as fast paced around these parts. I'd love for you to stick around, but I understand if you don't. Thank you for your patience, and for all your love and support.

  2. OH MY GOD I CAN'T BELIEVE IT TOOK YOU A WHOLE 24 HOURS TO WRITE ANOTHER POST! YOU ARE SUCH A BAD BLOGGER. UNFOLLOWING! ;)

keeeeeding. like i could ever do that! at least you have an excuse not to blog! :P haha i'm probably not going to blog today because i'm lazy. and i realize that sometimes i'm just sick of it. don't burn yourself out. go snuggle with your honeymuffin (? idk, i made that up) and eat ice cream (unless you're sick of it from work). BUT I REALLY WISH YOU DID POST MORE, SUSANNAH! I REALLY LIKE TO READ ABOUT YOUR LIFE. IT INTERESTS ME.

    hehe love you! <3

  3. I think this is a VERY reasonable argument. This is your blog and it's really up to you how much and how often you post.
I definitely understand - because I am in the same situation - that you just don't have that much free time to spend on your blog.
I still love to come here and read whenever you do post something:)

  4. Screw those people. Everyone has their reasons for blogging and some people blogging is just for them.

  5. I don't think you should even have to explain why you're the type of blogger that you are! You're supposed to blog for yourself, no matter if it means blogging everyday or every 2 weeks. I'm a new follower and I love reading no matter how much time goes between posts. ♥

  6. I 100% support you with this post. I have a very successful Tumblr that I post some of my own photography and personal, heartfelt messages. I'm only twenty. I'm in Pharmacy School and work 36 hours a week. I live with my boyfriend and support myself on an everyday basis. I would love to spend more time on my blog but it's sometimes too much. When I have a day off or any time to spare, I generally don't engulf myself into my blog. People tell me all the time that they wish I posted more but I know the people who truly support and appreciate my posts will still be there a week later when I post a blog post. I wish you the best!

  7. Thank you for all your sweet words, ladies! I don't want to gang up on the people who have made this comment to me, I just wanted to explain where I'm coming from and let you guys know that I *do* care about my blog and about you guys, that my infrequent posting is not a reflection of my dedication to my blog. There's just other stuff that gets in the way :)

    xoxo

  8. I dont personally understand when people put pressure on other people to blog more often. People have lives and this often means that there just isnt time to post when you want to. I often actually prefer blogs that only blog once a week, it means I can catch up rather than have to sieve through lots of posts that dont really mean much. To me, your posts that you do post me! ALso, I never think "there's a long gap in posts". For me, if I never really notice anyway, however it's normally a month or two of non blogging that I start to think "oh".

I love your blog :-) xxx

  9. Blogging is for yourself, first and foremost, and screw anyone who says otherwise! You don't owe anyone a certain number of posts per month, and if they believe you do they should probably start paying you for it :P I love your blog because the posts obviously took a lot of time and thought, not because you update constantly.

  10. Well said! When will people realise blogging is a personal thing, and not everyone blogs for other peoples benefit! I like your blog for the simple fact that you don't blog nonsense for the sake of it and when you do blog, it's worth reading! I'm more likely to read your blog than ones that fill my blog feed with the same old stuff over and over!

Just keep doing what you're doing! :) x

  13. AMEN. There is a lot of TCB that goes on IRL... And even those people who blog full time for work need breaks ♥

  14. I've been dealing with this for the past oh...8 months or so. Things in my personal life have sucked, and it's been hard to find the time/motivation to blog. In fact, in my last post, I decided to take a break!

So well said, Susannah. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who feels this way.

And I adore your blog! <333

  15. i'm all for a blog that doesn't post every day but when they do, it's meaninful. less fluff. quality over quantity :)

  16. Completely understand and relate with you on this post!!!

Blogging is something I do for myself- not anyone else and I post when I have something I want to say or something I want to share!
It's so hard to maintain a blog while having a life! If I didn't have to work or take care of a household I would have tons of time to write blog posts!!!
You post at least twice as much as I do!

I always enjoy all your posts whenever you post whether it's once a week or 5 days a week! :)

  17. REAL TALK! Thanks for writing this, posts like this make me feel human and less self-conscious about my own sporadic blogging tendencies. I love the blog community, but my "real life" will always ALWAYS come first, and if I am too busy enjoying that life, then I shouldn't have to feel guilty about lacking in posts for a bit. Genuine readers will come back when they see you pop up on their feeds... and won't abandon you just because you're not in their faces on the daily. <333

  18. Wow people are ridiculous. This is exactly why I've been in a blogging slump. People expect to much. I can completely relate to this and I agree with you! I'd much rather make a big meaningful post than a bunch of random as shit (excuse my French) in order to please someone. Thank you for posting this, I really needed to read this! Real life should always come before blogging!

  19. sometimes i like blogs that don't post everyday. i don't have a ton of time for blog visiting lately so i don't feel like i've missed as much if i only stop in once a week, haha. that being said...i also enjoy blogs that post everyday cause there's definitely something new if i do pop in. haha, i'm pretty easy to please.
keep doing what you're doing :)
