Regional Dialect- This is how we talk!

I've been hearing about this video meme for a while now, and after I saw Kaelah and Mike's I was able to convince Chris that we needed to make one. I think this is the first video I've posted with me in it, which is kinda weird, but now you guys know what I sound like! Don't mind my ratty hair, I thought about redoing the video because of it but then we'd lose our funny reactions and banter... So here it is! If you make one you should link me to it! I love love love having a voice to put to a face (or blog).

*EDIT* Chris and I have lived in the northwest suburbs of Chicago (fairly close to the Wisconsin border) for our whole lives, except for the few years we both lived in central Illinois during college. And Chris is tickled that you guys find him so funny! I think he's hilarious :)

  4. cute! it's funny the differences.
we pronounce pecan like "PEE-can", route like "root", and caramel like "CARE-a-mel"

  5. Susannah I agree with you with all of these! I'm from Ohio. Carbonated beverages with ALWAYS be POP! Soda sounds like something from the 50's or something it just sounds weird!

  6. We must be from the same area because I'm relieved I'm not the only one who says "pop" :]

  8. They will forever be known as foodmobiles to me now! That is too cool a name to pass up. Over here we call them trolleys. And roly-poly's are known as woodlouse (but roly-poly is way cuter!). I want to do one of these, I find the whole thing really interesting, but I'm too much of a wuss to go on camera.

Thanks for sharing this, Susannah. It was fun to watch! And much love to the interrupting Mr Jeans.

  15. Just saw Kaelah's video and now yours. Like it :) I've always found it funny that French words sound a little different in English. I'm from the Netherlands and we use French words as 'toilet', 'crayon' 'route' and 'caramel' too, but for example, we put the emphasis on cara-MEL and ROO-tuh (route).

By the way, 'food mobile' .. I love that one!

  24. This is cute. I vote the word yellow be added to the list. I say it like a normal person of course, but some people in WNC say "yalla"

  25. I'm a little late here, but I have a few bones to pick with that Chris guy!
Being from Chicago, it's POP! Not soda, sheesh.
Also, gym shoes, not sneakers. He does not have a Chicago accent what-so-ever. But I have to say, being from the southside I have a heavier "aaaaaaaA" accent.
    Think Coach Ditka. Heavily embarassing.
