A happy introduction.

A while back I tweeted that I had just heard some of the most exciting news I've heard in a long time, but I didn't reveal what it was. This is the beginning of that story.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been sitting here for a few minutes trying to figure out how to start this post. I usually don't have any trouble writing, things just sort of flow out and I don't have to think too hard. But this post, this post is really special. Bear with me, it's going to be long, and I'm probably going to cry while writing it! But it's one of the best and happiest events that's happened in a while.

My sister Lauren is eight years older than me. Lauren and our sister Cara have a different dad than I do, so technically we're half sisters, but that's never mattered to us. Because of our age difference, we didn't spend a ton of time together for a while (I graduated 8th grade the same year she graduated from college). Lauren moved back to Chicago the year I graduated high school, and we've gotten increasingly close over the years because we're in the same place again. The last year, though, has been really important in our life as sisters. I think we've bonded in a way that we weren't able to before, and we've truly become friends. Don't get me wrong, I've always loved my sister and growing up I wanted nothing more than to be just like her, but we've reached a pinnacle of closeness in our relationship recently that I wouldn't give up for anything. And, between you and me, I still want to grow up to be just like her!

In the last year I've watched my beautiful sister and amazing brother in law Kyle move into a new stage of their marriage. They decided they were ready to start a family. I can't count how many phone calls between us have been about babies and pregnancy and names! Things didn't happen immediately, though. Lauren worked with her doctors to prepare her body for a pregnancy, because being in the best health she could be is something she felt strongly about before trying for a baby. It took some time for her to get over some hurdles, and then once she got over them a pregnancy didn't happen right away. Last fall Lauren took a job in Virginia for the next seven months, and I helped her pack up her condo and we talked about feeling discouraged but incredibly hopeful that she would get pregnant soon. We went a few months without seeing each other, but Lauren and Kyle were able to come to Chicago at the last minute for New Year's. On the first, Chris and I met both of my sisters, their men, and their dad at the Italian restaurant where Lauren and Kyle had their rehearsal dinner before they got married. It was then, amidst family, sitting at the very table where I gave an embarrassing but really important (to me) speech to my sister the night before her wedding... It was then that we found out they're pregnant. I instantly teared up, but I was trying to hold it together, but tears of literal joy just couldn't help but squeak out. I looked at Lauren and she was crying, and my heart just swelled for her. I know how much she wanted to get pregnant, and how hard it was each month when she realized she wasn't. But they did it! It was still really early at that point, so we kept it fairly under wraps, but she's nearing the end of her first trimester and I got the go-ahead to share away!

Lauren and Kyle went to their first ultrasound today, and they sent this adorable little video out to everyone so we could share in the experience.

I've talked with Lauren a lot about the bloggers I read and how a few amazing ladies have documented their pregnancies on their blogs. I tried to convince Lauren to start a blog, or a diary of some sort, to be able to capture the things she feels and thinks and experiences, but it's not her cup o' tea, so instead I'll share a few little peeks on my blog!

I can't fully express how excited I am for her and for this baby. Lauren is going to be an amazing mother, and Kyle will be an amazing dad. This baby could not be any luckier to call them parents. Their child will be loved by so many people, but especially by Lauren and Kyle. They are two of the kindest, smartest, funniest, and easy-going people I've ever met (not to mention they have awesome taste in music!), and this baby is going to grow up in a beautiful home full of love and knowledge and music and award-winning pies (for real, my sister won a ribbon in an apple pie competition!), and I just couldn't be more excited. I can't wait until they come home from the east coast, and I can't wait to find out the gender and talk about names and help decorate the nursery and buy clothes... I bet you can tell by the run-on sentences that I'm super excited about all of it!

Anyway, this is the big news I talked about a few months ago, and I'm so excited to share it with you guys! I can't wait to update you when little things happen along the way, and you better believe I'll show off all the cute baby stuff I knit and crochet!

Congratulations, Lauren and Kyle, we love you guys so so much. ♡
