So this happened...

On Saturday night (or Sunday morning), at about 3:30 a.m., I woke up to Chris hurriedly throwing on some jeans and running outside. I followed him out, and that's when I saw it. A drunk driver had plowed into his car, which in turn crashed into mine. The driver had also hit our neighbor's mailbox, as well as ours.
car crash
The police were called, and they found the guy within fifteen minutes or so. Turns out he's a neighbor, he lives right around the corner. His car was totaled. We found out it was his second DUI in as many months.
car crash
Luckily he's insured, so we spoke to his agent and we're waiting for someone to come out and assess the damage.
car crash
I'm not quite sure where we'll end up. Hopefully we can get enough money out of it to buy Chris a new car. Repairing the damage to his car would probably cost more than he paid for it.
car crash
I'm also hopeful that we can get a rental car or two while we figure out what happens. For right now, we're using Chris's dad's car and we have today and Tuesday off, so we're fine with just hanging out at home as much as we can.
car crash
It's unbelievably frustrating that this happened to us. We live on a street with plenty of big houses and fancy cars, and *of course* it happened to us. We're very lucky no one was hurt, but it's still hard to think positive in a situation like this.
car crash
At least I liked my outfit today! I got this dress for $6 at Target without trying it on, and today I realized it has pockets! Dresses with pockets are my absolute favorite!!!
car crash
I got these white loafers at the thrift store for $4, and I'm pretty sure I'm in love! They're so cute and old-ladyish, and I think they're going to be my new favorite summer shoes.
car crash
Today I plan on getting a lot of crafty stuff done, especially some cute things I have planned for my sister's baby shower at the end of the month! I'm getting super excited to see how it turns out, and I have so many plans for decorations and favors that I'm really looking forward to!
car crash
Do you have any baby shower activities that you'd like to share? I'm at a loss in that department, and we will *not* be doing the crushed candy bar in a diaper one! EWWW! Please please please share any cute ideas in the comments, I need allllllll the help I can get! Thank you :)

  1. That. Sucks. I hope it gets resolved quickly!
I planned my sister's baby shower, and we did about four or five different games. One of them was a questionare about babies, another was smelling/looking at baby food jars and guessing the kind it was, then we did the crushed candy bar one (eww, I know... She insisted). But the last game was really cute! We bought a bunch of white onesies and Puffy paint, split the guests in to groups, and had them design it for the baby. Then she picked her favorite ones and they got a prize :) They ended up being really cute.

  2. hello susannah! so sorry to hear about your cars! hopefully it gets resolved quickly. We also did one where we put a little bit of differnt baby foods into some dixie cups and had people taste and guess. that was fun to watch everyones faces. then for my sisters we had everyone bring a name suggestion and the reason why. it was super sweet. we also made a diaper cake and had it covered the whole time then people got 2 mins to look at all the stuff on it and write down all they could remember. my cousins did one where they asked the mom ahead of time about which traits she wanted the baby to get from who. like shows eyes, mouth nose or feet. hers or the dads. then handed out the sheet to each person to guess as many as they could of what they thought the mom wanted. it was fun and surprising.

  3. I'm so sorry that happened! Stupid, stupid people. And your poor adorable bug! At least he has insuance, and I'm sure they'll take care of you two. =]

At one baby shower I went to, they had bought a lot of different baby foods and tore all of the labels off of them. Then, they passed them around and you could taste it if you wanted, or just smell it. Whoever guessed the most right won. It was pretty fun. Especially for me because I'm adventurous and tasted them all, while others opted to just smell them. =]

  4. Ugh, I'm so sorry that happened to you. It's great that no one was hurt, but it's still a pain to sort out.

Dresses with pockets make everything a bit better though :)

  6. You look adorable, and I'm sure everything will work out fine for you guys. Since you weren't at fault, you should get plenty of moolah for a new car and repairs and such!

  7. Goodness! So sorry to hear about your situation. Though I know it's hard to be super positive in these situations, I'm just glad that no one was hurt. Also, I really hope that the guy's insurance carrier pulls through and can get Chris a new car. That'd be awesome. You never know? It might be a blessing in disguise? :)

As for baby shower tips? My sister and I threw one for my Aunt several months ago. We had a bumble bee theme and heck no...we didn't play that candy in the diaper game. Hahaha. Some things that I love about baby showers are the decorations, the diaper cake, and the food! We just had a pot luck and made cupcakes. It was a blast. Oh! Also, we had a little notebook or cards for everyone to write out a little advice or a recipe for the baby. I'm sure you'll throw a wonderful shower and your sister will love it!

  8. I'm sorry about your car, hopefully it will be back to new quickly.

I planned a friends baby shower a couple of years ago and onesie painting was a huge hit. I bought several different sizes and made sure everyone could decorate at least one. My friends loved the fun and unusual onesies that came out of it.

  9. Noooo! That sucks so much. I really don't think we're tough enough on drunk drivers. :( So sorry about this.

  10. That's so crummy about your cars! I hope you're able to get them fixed/replaced soon! I'm glad no one was injured in the process ... hopefully that driver will be off the road for a while!

I'm at a loss on the baby shower ideas. Shower games always kind of make me cringe. I love the first commenter's idea of decorating the onesies though! I think it would be more fun to do arts and crafts kinds of things rather than games ... then again, I'm a big craft-dork so no surprise there! :)

  11. These photos of you are adorable! I love the dress :)

and I´m really sorry about you, and your boyfriends car...

  12. again... that totally sucks about the cars. Somehow I cringed more at the damage on yours... I've always driven hand-me-down cars so I'd be in a chris-sort-of situation myself if it were me with the damage being more than the car's worth...

and that target dress looks way cuter on you than when I saw it on a hanger. makes me wish I had tried it on!

I'm no help with the baby shower games though... last one I went to did that awful diaper game. gross. That thing did not exist when I had mine. I wouldn't have allowed it if it had! :)

good luck with the car situations... i hope you get as much as you possibly can out of that d-bag.

  13. Holy crap that sucks! Something similar happened to my ex...for Christmas his step-dad had bought him a car. Then on Christmas eve some jerk broke into it (drunk) and drove down the street, plowing into everyone's cars. Utter bullshit.

PS...I have a pair of cute white shoes similar to that, and I always think they look old-ladyish too. Not a bad thing :D

  16. OMG how infuriating! What irresponsibility! He is SO lucky that he hit empty vehicles and not people who were driving or walking on the street. He could have killed someone. I'm so sorry that happened to you, I hope he gets some help and learns a lesson.

  18. Wow that really sucks, although I am happy to say at least no one was hurt. Hopefully you will get decent money from the insurance though and can figure something out soon. You actually look surprisingly very happy in those pictures for something like this just happening. You look great too by the way! :)

  19. Oh no, the poor cars! I hope it all manages to work out for you! <3 It sucks having wrecked cars! I crashed mine into a parked car (!!) a few months ago. Goodness, it was so embarrassing, but luckily no big damage! Phew!

  20. Oh Wow! So sorry that happened to you guys. :( I'm glad you are trying to stay positive though.

Ummm... I'm not the best at baby showers either. BUT, I DID just literally come home from a Derby Hat themed one. It was fun to see all the cute hats. Thankfully we didn't play ANY games. All they did was set a timer for anywhere from 3-7 minutes and if it went off while the mom to be was opening YOUR gift, YOU won a prize. :D Easy peasy!

BTW - like the new look!

  21. That's such a bummer! We had a kid drive a car through our house a few years back, and that's exactly how I felt-- there are SO many houses and cars, the kid had to drive it through ours?! We did end up coming out ahead after all was said and done. Some things that seem devastating can turn out to have hidden blessings once you get through them. <3

  24. That's terrible that this happened to you guys. A few years ago, a drunk driver rammed into the front of our house, slammed through the garage (which was empty at the time), and totally smashed one of the walls in our house. We came home to find pretty much half of our house destroyed. The police never found out who did it, and it was so upsetting but at least no one got hurt (the damage was so bad that if I had been in my bedroom at the time, which is right behind the garage, I probably would have been killed). I hope you guys are able to figure everything out, so glad that you are safe at least!

  25. That really sucks about your cars. What a pain. On a brighter note, I LOVE your the color of your cardigan! I hope everything works out and that guy isn't allowed to drive again!1!

  26. What a jerk! At least they caught the guy & everyone's safe :)

  27. Oh that is just terrible. I am so happy no one was hurt. I just can't believe people drink and drive. A dear friend of mine was killed by a drunk driver. And I still don't understand why people do it. I hope they take his license away!

But I am just glad everyone is safe.

Your dress is really pretty. I also love pockets in dresses. I find my self trying to find a pocket to put my hands in when I wear dresses!

    Take care,

    Kim
