Elbow patches and pencil skirts.

// Sweater: TJ Maxx // Skirt: Thrifted // Belt: Snagged from another dress // Tights and Boots: Target //

First off, I need to say thank you to everyone who took part in my sale this past weekend. This season is the best I've had yet, which I said last year, and the year before that too. I'm so unbelievably thankful that you guys are into what I make, and that, at a time when I'm between real-life jobs, I can pay my bills with the fruits of my hobby. That blows my mind, and I couldn't be more grateful! So, thank you again!

So let's talk about this outfit. Last Saturday I went up to Wisconsin to hang out with my nieces. My 16 year old niece was in town from California, and the girls wanted to take care of some holiday shopping. There's nothing like shopping with a 16 year old California-girl to make you feel like your closet needs an update in a major way! Right now, she's all about comfy oversized sweaters, and her predilection for them rubbed off on me. Granted, this sweater is far from oversized, but I can't tell you the last time I wore a sweater (other than cardigans, because I wear those pretty consistently!). I don't know why, I think it's because of a string of poor sweater choices in high school, but I kinda swore them off. But now they're all I can think about, I want a million sweaters of all shapes and colors! Target has a pretty rad selection right now, if you're looking :) So anyway, I got this one from TJ Maxx, a place I need to shop more, and have worn it way too many times because, hello, elbow patches. And the pencil skirt. I really love pencil skirts, but they are not especially flattering on my frame. But I don't totally mind. I still wear them :)

Chris has the next couple days off, and I'm determined to get our Christmas tree up while he's home! I have no idea where we're going to put it, though, our house is teeny tiny compared to where we were living last winter. We're also rewatching Lost right now, and we've gotten to the point in season 6 where I just can't keep track of everything that's happening. I think we may need to backtrack a little!

Hope you're having a nice day :)

  1. Love sweaters in theory, but am always too warm! Cardis have to be what I choose because I can shed them easily.

  2. I think this skirt fits your frame nicely! Becaue it doesn't taper in too much, it balances out your hips. I just think it needs to be a bit shorter maybe. Overall, love it. Especially the sweater. I love elbow patches :)

    1. I agree, it's a little bit long! It'd be better if it hit right above the knee. I'm not that confident in my tailoring skills though :)

  3. I remember those poor sweater choices in high school as well. At least those times were never documented anywhere... unlike my older sister who took her senior pictures wearing a turtleneck sweater with no sleeves. It's as horrible as it sounds haha.

You look amazing, btw! I think I need something with elbow patches in my closet ASAP.

    1. Oh man! That sounds rough, like what designer decides a sleeveless turtleneck is a good idea? And yeah, elbow patches are amazing and I want them on everything :)

  6. Ha! That's pretty bad when even the second time around you still can't keep it all straight.
I think it had potential to be one of the best shows ever but the writers really blew it towards the end. BTW love that skirt!

    1. It got so jumbled at the en! I couldn't keep the different story lines straight. I like that the ending wasn't fully explained, but it was *too* open ended. Still a great show though!

  7. actually a pencil skirt is perfect for your frame. Just make sure it fits snuggly from the waist, through the hips, and looser towards the end of the skirt. Retro styles, like the pencil skirt, is sheer perfection on curvy ladies, I like to think of myself as a blonde Joan from Mad Men when wearing them!

You paired your sweater perfectly! xoxo

    1. Thank you ma'am! I do like what pencil skirts do for my straight-on silhouette, it's the side view that's a bit rough. I have a tummy that gets highlighted a little too much for my liking. But if I could achieve a Joan look I'd be fine with it :)

  10. I love this sweater, I can never find one that fits just right. The elbow patches are absolutely amazing. I'm super excited about putting my Christmas tree up too, but my flatmates won't let me do it till the middle of the month xo
